Stay the Course

I have fought the good fight, I have stayed on course and finished the race, and through it all, I have kept believing.
— 2 Timothy 4:7 (VOICE)

At times, the Christian life can seem like it is impossible.  Sometimes, we get so tired of fighting against our own desires and the world, that we just want to throw in the towel.  Often times, we feel this way because we are relying on our own strength and abilities too much.  Timothy’s words are encouraging to me because it gives me hope that if I stay focused on God, I can keep going.  I cannot do it on my own though.  I must allow the Holy Spirit to give me strength and keep me on course.

It is easy to drift from relying on God’s strength to our own, but those tired moments are a warning sign.  The Christian life is never easy, but it is much hard to try to live out a Christian life without the power and strength of the Holy Spirit. This week, I challenge you to use that tired feeling as a reminder.  When you feel run down and unable to do anything else, pray something like this:

Lord, I am once again trying to do your work by my own power.  Help me rely not on myself but on you.  Help me remember that you are greater than any task or obstacle.  You are the Lord of all creation, my Lord.  Keep me focused today on you and not myself.
