God asks us to take risks every day on him. Truth is, we take risks every time we stop outside our house and every time we get into our car. If we are going to risk something, wouldn't you want to put your trust into someone who is bigger than you and I?
If we're going to take a gamble though, wouldn't you want to make that gamble on God? Jesus loved the Rich Young Ruler too much to accept anything less than his life. All he asked for in return is faith and his trust.
Batterson defines faith as,
That's the true test for us, to truly put all our trust on God, no matter what, and risk everything trusting that hey will take care of us.
If you go through this sermon series and read this book and don't find a way to go deeper with God, give God your trust, and be able to go All In, then I've wasted my time speaking it. My hope and prayer is that God will show you what is your chance and moment to put all your chips on the table and trust him.
One of our staff children asked me Thursday as we pulled this coffin out of the closet why we had a coffin. She's in 1st grade. I had a brief moment of panic come over me as I realized I had to explain the missionaries story to this precious child without scaring her.
As I talked with her about what the missionaries did all those years ago, and how they packed all their personal belongs into the coffins instead of suitcases because they were committed to follow God till the day they met him heaven, I realized, our lives really are short in terms of God.
James 4 tells us
"How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone."
God is eternal, his love is eternal, and the lives we will live with him after our deaths are eternal. These lives on Earth are nothing compared to our lives in eternity. As American Christians, we have convinced ourselves that the American Dream is the same thing as God's desires for our lives. The truth is, God desires for us to follow him and to help bring others to him.
You don't have to give up your job, your family, and sell your house to change the world for God. You're living in the middle of one of the biggest mission fields in the world. America has become one of the newest places countries are sending missionaries.
Choose today to become part of God's solution for our country, our state, and our community. Choose today to give God everything you have. Give him your time, your focus, your relationships, your finances, your jobs, everything. You can live your life just as it is, focused on God. You can work your job focused on God. You can parent focused on God. You can pay your bills, save, and spend your money focused on God.
