Have you ever been to a spiritual retreat or conference, and walked away wishing you could meet God on a regular basis as you did there? So many times in our busy lives, we struggle to find the space to hear from God. We are lucky if we can carve out enough time to read our Bibles and pray on our daily basis. Who has time to be spiritually awakened regularly?
This is what Stovall Weems is trying to address in his book Awakening. He writes:
If our relationship with God is so significant, then why do we spend so little time and energy on it? Stovall goes on to explain the average Christian's spiritual journey by writing:
As a church, we want to be intentional and seek out those mountaintop experiences. Instead of just waiting for them to come, we are going to create them in our spiritual lives.
Creating space is the reason behind our "Awakening to God" sermon series. The holidays have just ended; no time is better than the present to stop and create time and space for God to move. When we make a point to focus on prayer, worship, and fasting, what we are doing is removing distractions from our lives so we can keep our focus on God and hear from him.
If you haven't picked up a copy of the Awakening book from the church, I encourage you to do so. Our 21 days of worship service will all be Live Streamed. If you can make any of the services, I hope you will. This is not an "all or nothing" type of thing. What I love about Stovall Weems' book is that he explains that anything we did to shift our lives more towards God will be a blessing to us.
Please also visit NoResolutions.org to let us know you are going through this journey with us. We would love to be praying for you and your time with God through these first 21 days of 2018.
God Bless and Happy New Year!
